This past Sunday near Lake Matthews, a man from Riverside was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of felony driving under the influence. The man was at fault for a fatal head-on collision on El Sobrante Road in Riverside near Palm Road at 1:55 a.m.

Kevin McCarthy, 24, of Riverside, was driving northbound on El Sobrante late Saturday night in his 2013 Dodge when he crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic, colliding into a 2015 Nissan driven by Maria Mata, 55, of Long Beach. McCarthy, Mata, and two passengers from Mata’s vehicle were hospitalized at the Riverside Community Hospital.
