On Monday, investigators attempted to figure out the cause of a Tustin car crash that occurred last week. The accident took the lives of two teenagers and injured five others.

Tragically, Jason Anguiano, 17, of Santa Ana passed away on Sunday evening, March 25, at Orange County Global Medical Center. A second teen, Pedro Fuentes of Santa Ana, also 17, died at the scene.

According to police, the crash occurred Friday when seven people were riding in an Infiniti M37 just before 3p.m. on Legacy Road. The car hit a cement post, then spun out before colliding with a truck and rolling over.

Five victims were injured—two other 17-year-old boys, two 17-year-old girls, and a 19-year-old woman—and were taken to nearby hospitals. Tustin Police Lieutenant Robert Wright stated that the survivors had non-life-threatening injuries of different degrees.

The 19-year-old woman was the driver of the car. While drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the accident, speed could have, Wright said. Investigators are still trying to determine the exact cause.

Aguiano and Fuentes were students at Century High School in Santa Ana and were beloved on campus for their good humor and kindness. The school held a moment of silence on Monday morning in the students’ honor.

Pedro Fuentes’ family created a GoFundMe account to help pay for funeral expenses. On the page, his family wrote of Fuentes, “He was an amazing, loving son, brother, and friend. Pedro will always be remembered as caring, humble, and full of happiness.”
